Welcome!

We have an excellent library of approximately 13,500 materials and are very proud of our collection.  Our collection includes print and audio books, magazines, as well as age-appropriate websites.

When can I come to the library?

The library is open every moment of the school day! Students may use the library at any time, not just with a scheduled library class. Students choose to come to the library in the morning after they get off the bus and before morning meeting, and at the end of the day immediately before buses load. They may also come others times at the discretion of their classroom teacher.

What will I learn in library class?

Classes come to the Library weekly for a 45-minute library class.  Third graders learn to navigate the library, becoming independent library users. For fourth and fifth graders, library time is directly tied to the classroom curriculum. During library class, students learn reading, writing, research, and information literacy skills that supplement, enrich, support, and extend the classroom curriculum.

How can I find library items?

Use the library catalog! It is available online both at school and at home. To access it, click Library Catalog. Feel free to bookmark it.

How many books may I borrow?

Students may borrow three recreational reading books at a time. When assigned by a classroom teacher, students may borrow up to three additional books. Items may be borrowed for two weeks. Many items may be renewed.  Due dates are stamped in each book.

Oh, no! My book is overdue!

If a book is overdue, damaged, or lost, students may not borrow any more items until the overdue item is returned or the lost or damaged books are paid for.

Printed overdue notices are given to students monthly. Students are encouraged to put a plastic bag in their backpacks to transport their library books to help prevent water damage.

Meet Ms. Colvin

Ms. Colvin is excited about being at the Mast Landing Library every day! She loves to read all genres except for horror stories.

Ms. Colvin earned her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of South Carolina and her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Literacy Education from the University of Southern Maine.

Before she became a librarian she was an expert on Gen. Joshua Chamberlain where she got to be on television a lot as the Curator of the Pejepscot Historical Society in Brunswick.

When she is not reading, Ms. Colvin loves to bake pies and eat them.
